About us

Our mission statement

At Priory Street nursery we firmly believe in children learning through play, working in partnership with families and helping children to become unique individuals ready for school

Our aims and objectives

  • To provide a happy and safe environment for the children, staff and families.
  • To ensure the staff understand the children’s individual needs at all times.
  • To work in partnership with parents/carers to provide the best possible care and education for each child.
  • To be professionals and be the best at what we do.

Our staff

All our staff are qualified or working towards a relevant level three qualification and all staff hold an enhanced DBS check.

Staff are trained in safeguarding children, first aid and basic food hygiene.

We're proud to be York's only nursery who pay our staff the Living Wage and have a very low staff turnover.

Staff ratios

  • 1 adult for every 3 children aged 0-2
  • 1 adult for every 4 children aged 2-3
  • 1 adult for every 8 children aged 3-5

At Priory Street Nursery we follow the guidelines set in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). You can read more about the Early Years Statutory Framework on the Foundation Years website

We do this by:

  • Ensuring each child has a key person.
  • Planning activities specifically for your child based on observations by your child’s key person.
  • Providing a stimulating and safe environment where your child can explore and learn.
  • Having access to outside every day.
  • Providing a nutritious and well balanced menu.
  • Having a dedicated, fully qualified staff team.

Every child has their learning recorded in their own Learning Journey. We use observations, pictures and photographs to share with parents/carers what children do during their nursery day and what they have achieved each month.
